Your Hosts

Ron McCord & Ed Lewis

Regenerative Gardening Experts

Ron McCord was born and raised in the food deserts of South Central LA. After joining the military and traveling the world he found himself in Africa and noticed that the local communities were all growing food, notably papaya. His dream was to one day have a garden that could support his own papaya. Starting with a small condo patio he set out to learn about gardening. A quick learner, he quickly out grew the space and set out to find more land to experiment on a larger scale. That spot, a now thriving food forest, was a barren landscape of scrapped dirt. Over 5 years he learned that by feeding the soil with mulch, rainwater, and 100’s of pounds of bokashi’d food waste he could grow a lush landscape that was resilient to drought. Today, Ron runs Good Grow Organics, teaching people what he’s learned along the way. His hand made bokashi is used by local community compost systems as well as back yard gardeners.

Ed Lewis is the co-founder of Enjoy The Farm and has been growing food for his family since 2009. In the process of learning to grow his own food he was introduced to the magic of bokashi by Ron McCord as a way to easily process his own food waste while building his soil fertility. The farm is now a community hub that provides a home for others bokashi’d food waste in an effort to work together to keep food from the landfill.
